Top Ten Travel Gadgets

Millions of Americans are truly vacation deprived. So, when you decide to take the plunge and head to one of Bluegreen's exotic resort destinations, what tools do you need? No need to worry yourself with research, because we have done it for you! Here's our list of the "Top 10 Travel Gadgets" that are useful must-haves for a successful Bluegreen vacation.
First on our list is Twisted Speakers from Proporta. Powered by USB or 3 Triple A Batteries, these mini-speakers conveniently connect to your iPod to provide splendid sound while you sit on the beach or relax on the deck overlooking the lake. An LED light indicates how much life your batteries have left. Next is the traditional Swiss Army Knife, which can be purchased from the Swiss Knife Shop. The all-in-one traditional tool is perfect for those campouts with the kids in the Smoky Mountains or the Ozarks. You have your spoon, fork, knife, corkscrew, screwdriver and bottle opener at your immediate disposal.
With the BeachBuoy, also by our friends at Proporta, your iPhone, keys, cash and/or digital camera will be safe from the outdoor elements. The waterproof case keeps your valuables just that, valuable, and not ruined. Now that your valuables will be safe, you can focus on your intellectual stimulation. Paperback books are on their way to being obsolete with the invention of the Kindle from Amazon. The electronic book reader has revolutionized how travelers read these days. With thinness similar to an US Weekly magazine, it won't take up much space. The 10.2-ounce device stores over 1,500 books, and has no glare when reading. Not even sunlight will prevent you from moving through chapter by chapter.
Outlets. Sometimes you just need more than is provided in your resort room. With the Mini Surge Protector with USB Charger from Belkin, you can add up three AC outlets and two powered USB outlets to cover all of your electronic needs. Sticking with electronic advancements, we have on our list a Digital Compass from Coleman on our list. The compass, thermometer, stopwatch, auto calendar and alarm clock serve a host of functions for your trip. Get lost on a hike through one of Aruba's national parks? This nifty device will come in handy as your traverse back through the wilderness to our Caribbean resort.
Have the need to drown out the noise around you while listening to your favorite tunes? Try the QuietComfort Acoustic Headphones from Bose. The sound around you is expertly drowned out and the lightweight fit is a blessing to your ears and head. Also a must-have on your trip is a Keychain Flashlight from Fenix. The portable mini LED flashlight can fit in small spaces and help you out when darkness ensues. The water-resistant device can also be added to your key ring for easy access.
The last two items on our list of "Top 10 Travel Gadgets" may not technically be considered gadgets, but we feel they are truly important. The perfect food companion is a bag of Combos. The cheesy, crunchy snack bites are perfect for the car ride or plane ride. We challenge you to become a "Combivore" on your next travel excursion. Soft bread-like dough hollowed into tube-shaped goodness and distributed in bite size perfection. There's nothing like it!
And, finally, we recommend that you have a Good Attitude when you embark on your vacation. This comes only from inside your head and heart. There's nothing worse than a "Negative Nelly" or a "Debbie Downer." Don't worry about the flight, condition of the room (which in the case of Bluegreen Resorts is always good!), money woes, food choices, etc... Go into your vacation with your head held high and we guarantee that you will have a rockin' time!

Are you hassled with so many things that need to be done just to attain the perfect skin you always dreamed of? When you go to a dermatologist, she would probably say the same things that you read from the internet. The only difference from having a tip from a skin doctor and from a website is the fee. That sounds so impractical isn't it? So to avoid spending another amount, I'll give you a free beauty skin care tip.
You don't need to buy and maintain usage of a costly skin care product just to have healthier skin. Complicated routines and expensive treatments are not paramount to a beautiful skin. Sometimes, because of too much treatment that you apply, your skin peels off. Other women may believe this is a good effect of the product they use. Actually, it is an indication that your skin is loosing adequate moisture and you are experiencing skin dryness. A fact that you must know; when the skin lacks enough moisture, it chaps and it gets prone to infection, irritation and sunburn. To avoid that, you must learn to identify safe and harmful skin care product ingredient.
More often than not, people will ignore the ingredient of the product as long as they know the brand. Consumers tend to trust the reputation of a manufacturer over the information about the components of the product. For this reason, many consumers end up discarding the product after experiencing additional skin problem. There are also product reviews that would talk about free beauty skin care tip but will actually advertise a certain brand.
Now here's a free beauty skin care tip that is genuine and really effective: Eat at least three servings of any fruit that is rich in vitamin C and A everyday. That may sound so simple but do not underestimate the results. Notice that almost all skin care products contain vitamin C and vitamin A. This is primarily because these substances are the most essential ingredient of any skin care product. These are actually plant of fruit extracts that are added with preservatives to keep it active as an ingredient of a topical product. When these substances are taken in without preservatives, they will produce faster and even more significant skin improvement.

Waxing Treatments, A Guide to After Care

Hair removal by waxing requires special after care:
Wear loose clothing after treatment, this prevents the skin from becoming irritated after waxing. It also ensures clothing does no rub against the skin follicles which have been emptied by the waxing process. The hairs have a blood supply at the base and therefore removing them compromises the protective barrier provided by your skin for a few hours. Care must be taken to protect your skin at this time from irritation and infection.
Avoid sun exposure, deodorant, hot showers/baths, chlorinated pools, massage, sun tanning, vigorous exercise, spas and saunas for 24 hours. This all prevents the skin from heating up and prolonging any irritation from the hair removal process.
Avoid makeup after facial waxing for 24-48 hours. Do not apply fake tan for 24 hours. Keep your skin clean and as sweat free as possible. Try to avoid touching the skin after waxing as everybody's hands have the potential to carry bacteria. This reduces the risk of bacteria entering the skin which may lead to infection, commonly seen as spots a few days after waxing treatments.
After 2 days use a scrub on the skin to remove dead skin cells and debris; this will minimise ingrown hairs. Continue this process twice weekly. Use moisturizer daily. This keeps the skin soft which helps the hairs to grow through the hair follicle rather than becoming ingrown. Hairs are often finer after waxing and need to pass through the follicle when they regrow therefore clean moisturised skin will help prevent ingrowing hairs. Apply antiseptic lotion to any ingrown hairs that may appear. (e.g. Tea Tree)
Waxing may cause redness which usually subsides after 24 hours. If the reaction persist please speak to your pharmacist as persistent redness is a sign of an allergic response. Speak to your therapists about this before you next see them as they can patch test other wax products on your skin to find out if one suits you.
Waxing treatments do not damage the skin in the way shaving or chemical hair removal can. If after care advise is followed then any redness after waxing will quickly subside leaving smooth soft hair free skin for weeks.

Trying to Conceive - Tips on Getting Pregnant

Trying to conceive is a heartbreaking process when it doesn't happen quickly. If you have had trouble getting pregnant, it is important that you understand there are natural things you can do to increase your chances of conceiving.
  • Eat Right: I know the phrase "you are what you eat" sounds cliche, but it's especially true when trying to get pregnant. It is time to stop thinking about food for enjoyment and think about food as fuel for your body. If you want your body to perform correctly, in this case get pregnant easily, then you need to put good quality food in it. In addition to eating healthy, you need to take special care that you're eating a ph balanced diet so that your vaginal ph is hospitable to your partner's sperm. If your diet is too acidic or too alkaline in nature, you body will harm most of your partner's sperm before they have a chance to reach your egg.
  • Exercise, but Don't Over Do It: Exercise is great. It lowers your stress hormone (a bonus when trying to get pregnant) and increases your over all health. But, too much exercise will make it more difficult for you to get pregnant. A woman's body must have a certain amount of fat to get pregnant and to carry the pregnancy to term. Too much exercise, as well as too lean of a diet, will decrease your fertility.
  • Know Your Body's Cycle: If you've had problems getting pregnant, then it is absolutely essential that you learn your body's cycle of fertility. This goes way beyond the antiquated rhythm method. If your cycle is irregular, than an ovulation calculator is useless to you because you will not ovulate on the days you're supposed to. Learning how to accurately predict your best days to conceive requires a little bit of education on determining your cervical position and how to accurately chart your cervical mucus and basal body temperature.
Trying to conceive can be stressful when you don't get pregnant right away. I know. I tried for six years to get pregnant with my first baby. I used to come home in tears after trips to the grocery store where I'd see moms with their babies. I wondered every day, "will I ever get pregnant?"
I finally got pregnant with my first baby after learning valuable tips for getting pregnant. After learning how to get pregnant, I successfully conceived two more times. I now have three children. If I can conceive after six years of infertility, anyone can.

You Found Out Your Pregnant - What to Do Now

I didn't do a lot of babysitting during my adolescence, so I really didn't know what to do when I found out we were going to have our elder daughter. We did a lot of reading because of this. However, the best information I received came from my mother and other women who'd already given birth.
One reason for this is because most of the books we read were written by men. There are a few things that can get lost in the translation, though both genders should be heard from on the topic. Here is some of what we learned, most of it the hard way.
Babyproofing is one of the most important tasks you will have. Babies and toddlers can do some of the most surprising things. My mother found my younger sister sitting on top of the fridge, eating Halloween candy she stored up there. Go around your entire house and look for hazards. There are special plastic electrical outlet plugs available, and you'll want a good stock of cabinet and drawer latches.
Don't depend on these latches working 100% of the time. Store medications and household cleansers up high. You may even want to consider putting them under lock and key. As mentioned above, just having them up does not mean a child can't get to them.
Don't forget the garage when you are working on this project. The day before our second child was born, a friend came over to use the garage. He took down the baby gate we had up and our older daughter toddled straight out there. We were lucky, she didn't get hurt. She did roll up and down the garage in John Deere tractor oil. Naturally, she was in a nice, white little sunsuit which did not survive the outing. You can probably imagine my reaction, especially as the temperature that day was around a hundred and ten.
Once you've gone over the house, it's time to take a tour around your yard. Some things may be obvious...ant bait trays and such are easy to recognize as a danger. However the plants themselves may be a bigger threat. Several common landscaping plants can kill a child quickly and painfully. If you don't know what the plant is, take it to a nursery to find out.
In the flower garden, watch out for monkshood, delffinium and any sort of lily. Shrubs such as azaleas, oleander and privet are toxic, as is the yew tree. In the vegetable patch, tomatoes, potatoes, peppers and eggplant pose problems if the wrong part is consumed. They are related to nightshade. The bark and leaves of the apple, cherry, plumb, peach and nectarine may cause cyanide poisoning.
As you can see, this is going to be a necessary process. Your mother or other relatives may be able to tell you more things to look out for. Babies and toddlers are smart, so we have to be smarter.
The newest eBook in our library is called Womanly Things It gives helpful information about many subjects helpful to women, including:
The Female Baby
Puberty and "The Talk"
Marriage, Pregnancy and Childbirth
Perimenopause and Menopause
And much more. You may also download my free report about the Top Ten Herbs, what they do, side effects and interactions.

Here are some of the ways that you can use to help you located the resources you need as a parent for a special needs kid.

1. Internet - To find resources to help you, this is the best way for you to use. The internet is filled with websites, guides, links to good resources and many other things that will help you as a parent.

You will have to search in order to locate exactly what is needed, but if you just look, it is available to be found. Plus, the internet lets you narrow down your search so you are getting only specific resources for your special needs kids.

2. Local programs or support - You want to take time to search in your local area for programs or support that can be a good resource for you. If you can't find what you are looking for locally, then you may find what you need in a surrounding area that is close to your home.

A third option you have is to start your own local program for kids in your area. This will be a benefit for your child and you, but it will also provide benefits for parents and children in your local town.

3. Your child's school - Schools these days are becoming more educated and set up to be able to handle special needs kids of all types. They will be able to help you locate the resources needed that will benefit you and your child the most.

If your child is going to school, then this is one of the best places to enquire about resources. If they don't have what you need, then they can always point you in the right direction.

World Health Organization Shows Safety of Atrazine with New Standard

A recently released World Health Organization (WHO) document has recommended a drinking water standard of 100 parts per billion, up from the previous WHO standard of two parts per billion. The atrazine drinking water standard enforced by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is three parts per billion. Jere White, Triazine Network chairman and executive director of the Kansas Corn Growers Association said the recent World Health Organization’s recommendation reaffirms the safety of atrazine.

“While our EPA is in the middle of an unscheduled re-review of atrazine because of activist campaigns, the World Health Organization quietly relied on scientific evidence and found that atrazine is safe at levels up to 100 parts per billion,” White said. “Here in the U.S., activists, insisting that atrazine levels at or even below 3 parts per billion are dangerous, have led EPA and the American taxpayer on an expensive wild goose chase.”

Atrazine, a herbicide trusted by growers across America, was reregistered by EPA in 2006. The reregistration came 12 years after the beginning of EPA’s Special Review of atrazine and other triazine herbicides. In its reregistration of atrazine, EPA stated that “levels of atrazine that Americans are exposed to are below the levels that would potentially cause health effects.” EPA announced a new set of Science Advisory Panels on atrazine October 2009 after a coordinated publicity and media campaign surrounding the release of a study by the activist group Natural Resources Defense Council. An EPA official stated Science Advisory Panels were being held in response to the activist campaign.

Some argue that EPA should follow the World Health Organization’s lead in setting less restrictive atrazine drinking water standards.

“EPA’s current drinking water standards for atrazine appear to be set at too severe a level,” said James Lamb, Ph.D., center director and principal scientist at Exponent, a scientific consulting firm. “These new findings from WHO suggest that the EPA should re-evaluate the current three parts per billion standard in order to bring it into line with the latest scientific data.”

The WHO summary and background document are available at the organization’s website, and will be included in the WHO 4th Edition of the Guidelines for Drinking-water Quality. Atrazine drinking water standards in other countries are higher than that of the United States. Canada’s standard is 5 ppb, Australia is 40 ppb and the United Kingdom is 15 ppb.

“The U.S. EPA should follow the lead of the World Health Organization and continue to rely on sound science to evaluate atrazine,” White said. “Since the Special Review began in 1995, all that our growers have asked is for EPA to follow their own guidelines and base decisions on sound scientific evidence and not activist-generated politics.”

Losing atrazine would have economic, agronomic and environmental implications. Atrazine is mainly used as an additive with many of today’s newest weed control products. Not only does it provide economical weed control to growers, it also offers a different mode of action and is longer lasting. This helps in season-long weed control, and also helps growers fight herbicide resistance in weeds. Atrazine is also vital to growers who use conservation tillage practices. By reducing or eliminating the need for tilling the ground, farmers are able to dramatically reduce energy consumption and erosion and runoff, conserve soil moisture and enrich the soil. The loss of atrazine would force many growers to return to tillage to control weeds in their fields and reverse a trend that benefits all of us.

Where Did That Little Tree Come From

Bonsai trees (miniature replicas of larger trees) have been a source of beauty and awe in private gardens and public arboretums for decades. You will be able to choose any perennial tree or shrub species that will complement any décor and/or setting in the size and style you want for your bonsai tree. There are also bonsai trees that are available for both indoor and outdoor settings. There are sizes and styles and varieties of bonsai trees that will add a special touch to your current décor.

History

Although the term Bonsai tree is used as a broad sweeping term for all miniature trees, several other cultures have similar traditions. China has a similar tradition in penjing and Vietnam has the tradition of miniature living landscapes known as hòn non bộ. Bonsai is the Japanese term and loosely translates has tray (bon) growing or planting (sai). The intent of Bonsai is for contemplation and decoration and finished products are considered a form of art. There is a long history of container (tray) grown Bonsai trees. Learning provides a prospective on what Bonsai tree tradition and how you can apply it to your own décorcor or life style.

Plant Selection

Where you get your source material for your Bonsai tree is important. Growing your tree from seed (not the normal practice) is seldom due to the time it takes to reach a mature or aged look to the plant. Knowing the environment (cold, warm, dry, raining, etc...) the plant will live in is essential to source material selection. Ideally, any source material used will be indigenous to the location where the tree will be displayed. This applies mostly to trees intended for outdoor display but should be kept in mind for indoor display. However, Bonsai tree can be created from any woody plants the final selection has to fit the creative palette of the grower. Go to your local nursery for starter material until you are comfortable finding your our source material.

Containers Style and Size

The container is an essential aspect for the display of the final Bonsai Tree. Water flow is essential and can only be provided by containers with holes in the bottom. The size of the final display container should match the aesthetics of what you see in the final product. In addition, training containers should be used while growing or training the plants to attain the final desired form. Training containers hold several plants and require a large volume of soil. The larger volume of soil allows the roots to grow more freely during the training phase and creates as healthier root system for the tree. If you are only growing one Bonsai tree, the final display container and training container can be the same.

Pruning Tools and Training/Pruning the Trees

Generally come in sets and can be found locally. Buy a starter kit and add the tools you need as your knowledge and skill increase. Pruning or training/shaping of any Bonsai tree is essential in the care and development of the tree. The basic pruning techniques are leave trimming, pruning of the roots, trunk and branches, wiring and clamping. Root prunning and repotting are essential skills necessary to the overall appearance of the Bonsai tree. The tools you will eventually use are important to make each technique as productive and easy as possible.

Buying vs. Growing your Own Bonsai Tree

The biggest, single drawback to buying a ready for display Bonsai tree is the care. If you buy a completed Bonsai tree, you will not have developed the skill set (pruning, trimming, replanting, etc...) to maintain the tree. You can always pay to have the tree maintained, but the enjoyment for me was always in the work and sense of accomplishment. Growing/training a Bonsai tree requires patience and commitment to a long term goal. Years can be spent training and eventually maintaining your Bonsai tree, but it is time well spent.

So, learn everything you can and you may find that growing Bonsai Trees is hobby for life.
